The 2nd Lisbon Contemporary Jewelry Biennial
Makers Move was invited to attend the 2nd Lisbon Contemporary Jewellery Biennial 2024 with the themes “Political
jewellery and jewellery of power”.
The event is inspired by the 50th anniversary of the Carnations’ Revolution that ended 48 years of dictatorship in Portugal and opened the way to the end of the colonial wars that had been raging for 13 years and to the independence of the former Portuguese colonies in Africa.
One of the main events of the Biennial will be the international collective exhibition “Madrugada – Jewellery and
the politics of hope. “Madrugada” or “Daybreak” owes its name to a beautiful poem by Portuguese poet Sophia
de Mello Breyner Andersen about the end of the dark days of totalitarianism.
