Ruby likes to travel

Ruby likes to travel

Ruby likes to travel was the title for my solo exhibition in Gallery Mette Saabye, Copenhagen. It was an exhibition of ruby jewellery – not real rubies but rubies made from resin. When visiting the exhibition the visitor could borrow any piece of the jewellery for a day. Each piece has a small suitcase and a logbook to go with it and the only requirement for borrowing the piece was to document the day in the logbook with a few photos and a text.

When the jewellery was returned to the gallery, the logbook was displayed together with the piece.

Produced to be relatable, this exhibition invited its viewers to form their very own experience with the jewellery. Invited to contribute towards an understanding, the exhibition performed as a potent conveyer of the wearer’s story; their individual being, their connection to society and how an object has the potential to carry particular significance.

Jewellery is relational – it connects us to people, places and days in our lives.
